The Game Play
The game concept is Nioh, which took place in the 1600s in Japan when there was a fictionalized version of the Sengoku period. The incident initially occurred when Japan was in the hands of civil war before the Tokugawa Shogunate’s ascension.
William Adams, a Western Samurai and a sailor, seems to be pursuing an enemy who arrives in Japan and gets enlisted by Hattori Hanzo, a servant of Tokugawa Leyasu. The story spins around the historical moments of the Western Samurai shown along with supernatural powers.
The game player has to help William in all his missions through enclosed environments, fighting against both human enemies and supernatural beings – Yokai. All the missions are self-contained, and the players can select from the game menu for open-world navigation. Shrines can be seen scattered through all the game levels wherein players must assist William at the checkpoints, save the progress, refill the stealth points, and help William raise his experience to move further towards the following levels.
The Mission Combat
The mission is based on two combat modes: hack and slash, wherein William has to fight against the enemies and has to block them from being entered. William can run, dodge, and sprint with the given stamina bar Ki. William can switch over among the three stances with the most potent weapons, wherein each stance has varying effects. A higher stance would create impacts of more significant damages with lowering defense, a lower stance would create implications for quick & easy attacks with a better range of defense, and a medium stance would make the impact effect that stands balancing between those extreme poles.
William can call Revenants – the hostile ghosts that can be done based upon the other fallen players to fight against the enemies to gain experience and earn money points. Other players can be called for to help on hands in the battles in multi-level player mode.
The Game Development
In 2004, the gaming project was initially scratched, wherein it went unfinished as Akira Kurosawa’s script. After undergoing several revisions for about eight years of steering hard work, team Ninja had given shape to the project as Nioh! The vile beasts – Yokai:
Yoki, Onryoki, Hitotsume-Oni, and Onyudo are the four different characters who kill Yokai creatures.
Yoki: When a human is demonstrated and transformed into a threatening demon by the power of Amrita, there is born Yoki! Yoki is a creature with extreme power of aggressiveness and looks like a large & monstrous body.
Onryoki: He is an enormous giant red demon whose top of the head is burning red flame of anger and the other half is that warped by animosity. He is born out of revenge vengeful characteristics, as facing this creature should be full of stealth.
Hitotsume-Oni: It is a one-eyed brutal creature said to be the reincarnation of mountain gods and spirits of violence. Legends say that two-eyed Hitotsume-Oni were actually once human and turned into heartless creatures because of humans’ negative emotions.
Onyudo: Don’t get close to these foolish creatures as they seem to be very good with hearty intentions, but if they lose their tendency and betray their disciplines, make others fool.
